Rat Land
Title is a work in progress
Rat Land is a 2D metroidvania style game built in Godot as part of a personal game development project.
Created as a solo exploration of core game development mechanics, the project features custom scripting for player movement, collision detection, and enemy AI. All character sprites and UI elements are original and hand-drawn in Procreate, while background assets are free-to-use resources by Nico Pardo.
While still in a prototype stage, Rat Land already implements many foundational systems expected in a full game, including:
Complex player movement (running, jumping, dashing, wall jumping, wall sliding, etc.)
Basic combat mechanics
Respawn system
Multiple levels
Item collection and inventory systems
Currency system
NPC interactions
Short Demo of Current Gameplay:
In the early stages of development, I intended for Rat Land to have a pixelated art style, but eventually transitioned away from that direction after realizing it limited the level of visual detail I wanted to include. The bunny enemy sprites were never updated to match the new style, as they are not planned to remain in the final version of the game. The overall plot and narrative direction have also changed a few times throughout development.
